How can we foster metacognition and autonomy in young learners through everyday classroom practices?

This workshop will explore Flag Time, a reflective practice used in the Early Years to support children in becoming more aware of themselves as learners. Participants will engage with the principles behind the practice, examine examples from the classroom, and reflect on how structured opportunities for choice, reflection, and goal setting can contribute to both academic and social-emotional growth.

Through discussion and collaborative activities, educators will consider how metacognitive practices can be embedded into daily routines and adapted to different learning contexts. Participants will leave with practical ideas and inspiration for nurturing reflection, agency, and ownership of learning in young children.
